Greetings from the I-Desk...

Hala is off tonight. Isha will get things started in the early edition of the International Desk, then Michael Holmes is making his debut in the later edition.

Tonight, we're touching on a long list of developing stories, including the Middle East peace process taking center stage at the White House. President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are meeting. We are expecting their comments, during the early edition of I-Desk, and a complete wrap-up of what's next in the process, during the later edition.

Also, what do you think? Is the "two state solution" the best way forward? That's tonight's I-Desk online poll... Look below and give us your thoughts.

And, we're also closely following the situation in Sri Lanka. An LTTE leader was killed by Sri Lankan forces. We have the latest from Colombo, plus the U.N.'s reaction. What is the worldly body doing, if anything, to stop the violence? We'll find out for you.

All that, plus a rare live report from beautiful St. Basil's Cathedral in Moscow. You don't want to miss it!!

See you at the I-Desk.

A 2-state solution is the ONLY solution. This has been one of the foundations of the road map to peace and the Israeli government has dragged its feet while taking land and developing settlements in clear violation of any peace accord. Making problems worse, Israel has cut off Gaza prohibiting most aid as well as food and medical supplies and has so since the cease fire. That in itself was a clear violation of International laws and of course the road map to peace and also a way to make the Palestinians mad and frustrated in their quest for peace-yes, they, the major share of the population wants peace

abdramane   May 18th, 2009 4:36 pm ET

hi isha ! i think the two state solution .is the best way for the middle east and also for the world !!!!!!

SensibleAli   May 18th, 2009 4:36 pm ET

Israel could easily run over the rest of Palestine. Why hasn't it done so yet? Israel is strong, the region's superpower in fact. With the U.S. now in the neighborhood, there will be an entirely new deal. If Israel gives in too soon, it will squander opportunities. It can do much better by waiting ... and the wall is an indicator it will. – The question is not that of 2 states, but: Are Palestinians up to the civilitory task of running a state?

John   May 18th, 2009 7:21 pm ET

It is important for Israel to understand that world is seeking for a win/win solution for both Palestine and Israel. They also must realize that whether they like it or not people in the free world recognize both these entities. A 2 state solution will guarantee peace, prosperity and friendship for both states. Nitanyahou, is acting like all the other fanatics in the region, he is more eloquent than Ahmadinejad, but he has the same stubborn one sided approach.

Naveen   May 18th, 2009 7:33 pm ET

I am quite appalled by your report. How can u say that Prabhakaran(leader of the LTTE) is a leader of the Tamil people? he s a leader of a band of terrorists? Would you call Osama a leader of the Muslim people?? I think what we need is a world which talks in democracy, terrorism is never the way forward!, violence results in nothing, LTTE just did that..and now they have paid the price....

Thamizhan   May 18th, 2009 8:25 pm ET

One man's freedom fighter is another's terrorist....

Naveen, you should understand the difference between Osama and Prabhakaran.
The Whole world (even Sri Lanka) accepted Prabhakaran as the leader of Tamils in Sri Lanka before Bushism made anyone who oppose a government became a terrorist.
The international had enough time to save more than 25,000 people been butchered by the Sri Lankan government.
Why is the media taking its eye out of what happenend to all those 25,000 civilians this weened instead publishing propagandas of Sri Lankan goventment saying they killed senior members of LTTE.

OK... lets keep LTTE as terrorists and they got eliminated... but what happenedn to the 25,000 innocent civilians why did the government kill them???

Sri Lankan Government was saying there are only 70,000 civilians trapped in the war zone but they mananged to rescue 200,000 civillians....

Prabhakaran is still alive and there would be 100s of Prabhakarans in the future...

Samantha   May 18th, 2009 10:23 pm ET

Tamil leader? He was no leader. He died trying to escape in an ambulance, after creating a terrorist group that called for its fighters to commit suicide through cyanide pills if they were caught, and also recruited suicide bombers. His group stole children from their families, and trained them to fight when they should have been in school. He was no leader, he was a murderer. Additionally, many tamil protesters in canada and worldwide still protest. Initially they claimed they protested for the safety of the civilians trapped in the war zone. Now that 250,000+ have escaped away from the LTTE, these protesters do not sigh in relief, but they mourn the loss of the LTTE leader prabhakaran. Not one word about how happy they are that there was NO Genocide. 250,000+ free is a clear sign that there was no genocide. They are brainwashed, and they are the ones that do not want to live in harmony with the Sinhalese. Yes, there was unfair treatment of Tamils back in the 70s, but those times are over, and tamils have achieved equal rights. Tamils also celebrate the defeat of the LTTE in sri lanka, and now we may all be able to live peacefully.

Thamizhan   May 18th, 2009 11:41 pm ET

If Sri Lanka has completely liberated the country from terrorists... why do they want to keep the civilians without access to NGOs in these concentration camps?
First you should know what genocide means....
[source Wikipidia]Genocide is the deliberate and systematic destruction, in whole or in part, of an ethnic, racial, religious, or national group.
First SL govermnet moved people from there homeland.. mentally damaged them buy indiscremately bombing in No Fire Zones.. mal-nutritionized childrens then now splitting fimilies and sending them to different camps... too many disapearances rapes other harresments happening in these camps.
This is whats called a slow genocide...
Look at the % of Sri Lankan Tamils in the country now compared to independance and % of Land occupied by the tamils now and then...

Siv   May 19th, 2009 3:44 am ET

Regarding the Sri Lankan situation, I don't think the Tamil people are celeberating the brutal Sri Lankan military victory. Anywhere between 10000 to 40000 civilians have been killed in the past four months alone. Not to mention the many thousands who were brutally injured. Despite International calls for restraint, the Sri Lankan army went ahead with the final assault that has killed many more thousands of Tamils. Only the Sinhalese are celeberating! Not the Tamils!

The Tamil people have no hope of equal rights in the Sinhalese dominated Sri Lanka. The UN and the international community should get involved to overlook the safety of the displaced people. Plus, the Sri Lankan president and his brothers should be persecuted for war crimes. To secure the long term political future of the Tamils, the UN should conduct a referendum.

Ali Al-Abdulrahman   May 19th, 2009 3:57 am ET

US administration has the ability to push the peace process in the Middle East, IF they want!!!
Stop Israel from occupying the land, stop Israel from killing the people in Gaza and West Bank.
Palestinians have the right to live in peace, as the rest or world lived.

malar   May 19th, 2009 4:26 am ET

The root causes the problem are still unresolved. International cmmunity should intervene and resettle the tamil people who are in the camps to there homelands, not to be treeted as 3rd class citizens. food , medicenes & shelters to be supplied directly through the ICRC or any other international organisation. Tamils need freedom.

Subramanian   May 19th, 2009 5:46 am ET

The world has to take serious action to save tamil people those are suffering at Srilanka. Here, the concern is to help people and provide all basic needs for their life. The srilankan goverment should not discriminate tamils and singalist. They have to give equal rights to both.

Hope that good will happen soon.

Mayu   May 19th, 2009 10:29 am ET

It is a sad day for all Sri Lankan Tamil community because it lost some of its best members. It is also a turning point for the same community. If you look at the situation very carefully, the government was very keen in celebrating its victory. It is not bothering about the Tamil community’s feeling and the displaced people’s pain. It is the history and the tradition of Sri Lankan government. This is the only reason that made the Tamil youth to take arms in their hand. I am not sure whether the Sri Lankan government will create another Pirabaharan or have they learned the lesson from the first Pirabaharan. The best solution for this conflict too is two states solution.

miriam   May 19th, 2009 11:16 am ET

The Jews accepted a two-state solution in 1947 but the Arabs rejected it prefering the creation of one state, just another one for the Arabs.

The current idea of a two-state solution 'based' on the 1967 lines was acceptable to Israel until 1967 however the Arabs didn't accept it and prefered the one-state solution again.

Every time Israel has offered Palestinians land for a state, the Palestinians have had a reason to reject it without even further negotiation.

Israel withdrew from Gaza to enable the Palestinians to demonstrate their ability to self-rule, but Hamas violently destroyed the Fatah leadership and showed Israel what their interpretation of self-rule meant.

As Netanyahu says, Israel does not want to rule over the Palestinians, but many Israelis are concerned with the kind of state that would exist by her side. Should Hamas take over in the West Bank, the entire country would be in range of their rockets. Once again, the Arabs/Palestinians would prefer their one-state solution to the two-state solution.

Although most of the world backs a two-state solution, as do many Israelis, the world also needs to understand the problems Israel faces with such a situation. It's not clear that much has changed wrt Arab/ Moslem attitudes since pre-1967. That is evident from the education children are given about Israel and Jews. Those who want to force the two-state solution onto the Israelis do not have Israeli's interests at heart (which is nothing new). Their are numerous societal issues among the Palestinians that need to be addressed before a stable, successful state will be ready for creation.

Sham   May 19th, 2009 11:47 am ET

no use of arguing each other.....Prabakaran is dead.....there might be another Prabakaran in future ( as few tamil ppl thinks ), no one can break our united sri lanka again.....TAMIL EELAM is only a dream.....

mohana   May 19th, 2009 12:56 pm ET

these days very sad days. America and all the countries should take an action for this eezham problem, and save the people for bottle field.
that is my request

musa nayaba   May 19th, 2009 3:24 pm ET

well i have been seen your progman, it very good for what i notise thank you very mach hala.

Aish   May 19th, 2009 4:29 pm ET

It is sad to see a country celebrate despite seeing many of its own citizens brutally killed or struggling for their lives! If they really cared, they should let international aid up north to rescue and also allow international media in...and most importantly provide an adequate supply of food and medication! It is high time the sri lankan government treats the Tamils equally as the Singalese civilians, and stop this suppression as well as the ethnic cleansing of the Tamils! Well...this would def. fall in deaf man's ear since it is a bit too much to expect from a government of SL's caliber. After all, they are immersed in hapiness, having defeated Tamil Leader Prabakaran (and claiming to have killed him)... yet the Tamils all around the world will not quit till a solution – promising the safely to of our sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers, children is imposed!!!

Dayanandan   May 19th, 2009 7:45 pm ET

Tamils should be freed from Sinhalese genocide. Genocide was on slow phase, since island wide killings, displacements, burning down properties, rapes, etc by riots 1958 and then systematically continued by 1961, 1976(Trinco), 1977,1981( Jaffna library), 1983, 1985 etc. Colonized systamatically Trinco and Ampara and made Tamils become minority, Now that can be done in all over North East. During the war 1983-2008 Dec, regular bombardings would have killed tens of Thousand Tamils and multiple displcements for every Tamils in North and East. Multiple property destructions and lootings , all these are only Tamils faced. Tigers did n't bombed like SLAF killed over 15, 000 Tamils, Tigers didn't make Singhalese people to go displacements and severe hardships that the Tamils have faced. All sorts of hardships were totally only for Tamils. Systamatically Tamils have been chased out for only goal is One Singhala SriLanka. Now MR says there is no minority, all can be equal, Yes he will be correct because everyone one day may be within 50 years to be Singhala guy, if no freedom for Tamils there is no need to wait for hundread years.

M.Baskaran   May 20th, 2009 12:32 pm ET

Tamils when they got there Self-determination,until this war not going to finish. IC and world powers and (You) media also have to do more and more. Tamils history 2600 years in Eelam or Ceylon(srilanka)We have our on country before the Colonial role in Britan.

Tamilan   May 20th, 2009 12:37 pm ET

Idiot FIRST thining about solution

Ram   May 20th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

He is not dead.Sri lankan govt is showing an fake body and fake images.Dont believe that.

Yogaraja   May 20th, 2009 1:06 pm ET

LTTE fought for tamils freedom in the past several years. Tamils fully supported the freedom movement. Now Singalise Army killed around 50,000 tamil people in the past 3 month alone. Tamil need a seperate country live in peace. Singalise won't allow tamils to live, they continue to do genocide, Singalise may try to eliminate entire tamil people in Sri Lanka. World is not stoped the genocide infact supported by supplying weapons and arms to Sri Lankan Army.

Tamils will keep fight for their freedom. Tamils need a political soution seperate country Tamil Eelam.

k.raveenthiran   May 20th, 2009 1:42 pm ET

The presant military victory only for the Sinhalese not for Tamils. We are not celebrating this while we lost over 35,000 lives in last three months. And the 275,000 evacuated from their home land are in concentration camps,In their word if they liberate the tamil people why they were kept into the concentration camps? Why they did not allow the NGOs and Humanitarian organisations there?? (Including my mother and sister's family also into the same camps. We were not allowed to give the foods also. this is my own experience).
The LTTE is the sole representative of tamils. We recognised them in the past parlimentary election too.
The presant victory may help them but it will not end the war until they recognise tamils rights.

malini nadarajah   May 20th, 2009 1:45 pm ET

War may be over by word by international media. But genocide still going on without knowing the out side world. US AND THE REST OF THE CIVILISED WORLD made and have been making dead mistakes that let the innocent tamils die minute by minute. Since there is no justification many pirapakaran must have born.It is inevitable. in war zone area, sri lankan goverment erasing the evidence of killing civilians and hide the concentration camps atlest for a day so until the international media arrived.then CNN telecast the sri lankan goverment's drama to make the whole whole world fools. thanks but no thanks for the unfair world and media.

Rayan   May 20th, 2009 1:49 pm ET

War will not end their until tamils get atleast autonomy. Let the tamils is Eelam decide pirabhakaran is their leader or not....who are the above guys to say the pirabhakaran is not the tamils leader...Where ever it may be Kashmir or Palestian...people who were in that land has to decide it is not india or Pakistan or America. Same let tamils decide who is fit for them....

kumar   May 20th, 2009 1:51 pm ET

Until the Sri Lankan government respect the Tamil people’s self-determination and respect, the war won’t come to end. The government will start to puss the Tamil communities in all the ways such as work, education and some well plan Singhala establishment in Tamil home lands. So, again the Tamil people start to fight again the Government. The Singhala majority trying to give some solution to Tamil people trough the some government related Tamil people who are depends on the government for their survival. These people will agree any form of solution even thought that does not have any fundamental rights to Tamil people. So it will not give any peace life to Tamil people. One more thing India does not like stability in Sri Lanka so it will create another fighting group with in Sri Lanka very soon.

RAJA   May 20th, 2009 1:58 pm ET

If Sri Lankan government liberated tamils from LTTE why over 250,000 peoples still detained into the concentration camps?? More than 40000(forty thousand) killed in last four months? Is this their democracy? Who did request them this type of democracy??
The Tamil people have no hope of equal rights in the Sinhalese dominated Sri Lanka. The UN and the IC should get involved to overlook the safety of the displaced people. To secure the long term political future of the Tamils, the UN should conduct a referendum.
And we hope 2-state solution is the Only solution which was recognised by Tamils in 1976.

Firaz Mirza   May 20th, 2009 2:05 pm ET

Initailly to the tamils who think prabhkaran as a leader and the so called sun god................. the fight for elam was for the benefit of him prhabakaran not the tamil people if he wanted to voivce out for the tamils he wold have done so in a democratic way see today he was killed ruthleslly......... Even until the last moment he held civillians for his own benefit that too the tamil people............. the first killing he did was a tamil the then mayor of india he killed kadirgamar agian a tamil and he took in forcibly childern into the ltte see today karuna who was second in command has gone to parliament after undestatnding that prhabakarn did this for his own benefit.............

Arent the tamils living peacefully say mjority of the masses who live in the upcountry are tamils then in colombo take for instance wellawatha and kotehana tamils arent the living freely why cant the tamil diaspora understand this..............................

To the Srilankan today we have to live like brothers and sisiters of one mother let us all unite to form a better Sri Lanka for the coming generations..................

To cnn this i think is a very biased organisation this not how u treat a country who have fought terrorism and looking into a brighter future please dont be so rude by postin unwanted polls as such...................

Firaz Mirza   May 20th, 2009 2:11 pm ET

today the tamils are scared that they will have to come back to Sri lanka because most of the tamils went as assylum seekers and are reffugees in other countries they are so cheap they think they will have to come back and do nothing.......................

they think they will have to ome and live in a developing country and if they do come they will have to go to places from where they come and are war torn areas and developments are yet to come......................

Why dont u tamils come bcak and help build Sri lanka.................. come back go back to ur original places jaffna or the north and rebuild ur place be happy to be from Sri Lanka a country that defeated terrorism..............

anitran   May 20th, 2009 2:24 pm ET

Rajapakse promised a 'homegrown' solution to tamils. What is home grown in SL is PUNNAKKU (a biproduct which uses to feed animals, specially cows). Tamils have absolutely zero confidence on Rjapakse and his followers. International community took the mandate to safeguard tamils from LTTE, and therefore, it is upto international community to decide whether they will alow tamils to live peacefully in their habitat or not.

uth555   May 20th, 2009 2:25 pm ET

Lets assume Prabakaran is no more !! Now its up to the Srilankan government not to create another Prabakaran. Try to work on it rather than celebrating over 25000 dead tamils.
Can the Srilankn fools please learn from their past mistakes.
The country is already 30 years behind. Please stop fooling the world we know what is happening in the war zone.

Really we are very happy about Militery/Government victory.they are the HERO 2009 in the world.we must celebrate this days every year.

yes! LTTE they are terrorist, still tamil people not at all some of like who comment this page saying sri lanka government is what about Tamil tigers i mean LTTE?are they right?

Thousand Tamils and multiple displcement because of who?

what about Killing Muslim people during pray in the mosque at KAATTANKUDY.also killing muslims at ERAVUR..

Depart and left muslim families from their homes and PLACE without taking anything at MANNAR and JAFFNA,just LTTE give 100/=Rs only.all the property and money who theft? who did that ?

sri lankan government treats the Tamils/ muslims equally as the Singalese civilians,

we may all be able to live peacefully.

ken   May 20th, 2009 3:04 pm ET

when tamils have seperate state, then war will over in SL. Until then tamils fight for their rights. Wait and SEE.

Ananthy   May 20th, 2009 3:37 pm ET

As atamil, I can say one thing. We didn't celebrate this SlL government's so called victory. When thousands of tamils are suffering from injuries and all other kinds of physical and mental tortures, these sinhalese are celebrating their victory. I also thought in the past to live in a united Sri Lanka . But after seeing all these unethical and barberic killings, disapperances and sexual harrasement and importantly the way how these people celebrated. Now I am sure we need a separate land for our peaceful life. Although we have a setback, we will definitely recover from this and we will do whatever we can to achieve our dream.
We'll neither forget nor forgive SL govt and sinhalese for these barbaric acts. Each tamil should work together to restoreour people's life and our motherland (Here motherland means Tamil eelam).

Gowrisankar   May 20th, 2009 4:07 pm ET

Rajapakse is cheating the international community. LTTE leader is never die until get the peaceful tamil eelam for tamils. IC must punish Rajapakse. WHY ARE WATCHING AND CLOSING YOUR EYES: THERE IS GOING ON GENOCIDE: PLEASE SAVE OUR PEOPLE: DON?T BE LATE

One of the world's most sophisticated insurgencies, the Tamil Tigers and their leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran.

We are happy today to see the end of that ruthless terrorist organization and its heartless leader. We can live in peace after this.

somas   May 20th, 2009 5:07 pm ET

as long as the srilankan singala leaders inssist not to include minorities in process of nation building and not treat the minorities as equal citizens ,the struggle may continue .we hope the singaleese realise sooner or later that the singala nationalism bring the country into deep economic disaster and social unrest .noone knows when india fall apart and china loose its economic interest .

Mad cap   May 20th, 2009 6:00 pm ET

No matter whether Pirapakaran is dead or alive. But I am 100% sure that democracy in Sri Lanka and India is long dead and gone.

RAVI   May 20th, 2009 8:19 pm ET

Did Srilanka win this war? Never , Srilanka win this genocide (war) with India China, Pakistan and almost all the world. so this genocide responsible for UN.Tamils should be freed from Sinhalese genocide.
no justification many pirapakaran must have born
The best solution for this conflict too is two states solution

priya   May 21st, 2009 1:03 pm ET

the war is not won, this has become a mager crisis problem now taking the country further behind, the un must intervene without further delay and save innocent civilians before it,s toooo late without just talking and delaying, the minorities must be protected without delay, before millions die.i plead with his excellancy the president of united states to intervene and bring about a fair solution and medical needs as soon as possible, this is a humble request .

Anna   May 21st, 2009 6:57 pm ET

now that the so called war is over, the international community must be thinking that Sinhala hardliners will offer some form of devolution to the Tamils. I am telling you all LTTE was the creation of the Sinhala hardliners for not solving their problems. Any one can go and see the history of Ceylon/Sri Lanka to find out the what took place in the past. Obama should look into this aspect and appoint a team to study the sufferings of the Tamil people in that island nation. Tamils and Sinhalese are like water and oil, meaning it will never mix. Only way is go their separate ways.
God bless Sri Lanka and a future Eelam.

Sierra   May 21st, 2009 8:46 pm ET

The UN peace keeping force must be sent to Srilanka to divide the country and let the Tamil people live in peace. The President of a state must be neutral among all the races. He must prove that he is the head of the minorities as well. But he has proved himself a good planner and executor of GENOCIDE of a race. He must be prosecuted for WAR CRIMES in the international court along with his brothers and his commanders of the forces. That will set a good example for all the lunatic heads of states and the lunatic barbarian and majoritarian societies such as Srilankans. The Tamils must be protected from the Srilankans.

shan   May 22nd, 2009 12:19 am ET

wait and see if our leader is dead or alive if you are really worried about it.

There was oil in Iraq that induced Bush to invade Iraq but no such item in Srilanka for Obama – shame on US

But one thing is certain that Tamils will eventually get Tamil Eelam not because of the intelligence of Tamils but because of the stupidity of the Sinhalese mass murderers?

raji   May 22nd, 2009 1:14 am ET

sinhalese!!! stop fooling yourselves saying the war is over in srilanka

rangan soori   May 23rd, 2009 1:49 am ET

Shame on Singhalese to celebrate 50000 to 100000 innocent Tamils civillans death. the singhalese have shown their ugly face to this world by celebrating and not mentioning the loss of innocent Tamil lives in their thousands by the offensive attack comitted by Singhalese Army!

They celebrate for more than a week and pay respect for their singhalese Army but not have included in all this time ONE SILENCE MINUTE FOR THE TAMILS DIED IN THIS BLOODY WAR BY SRI LANKAN ARMED FORCES from day 1!?? Why simply THEY ARE HAPPY TO HAVE MASSMURDERD TAMILS IN THIS SCALE!

Disgusting World,UN,EU and the civilised US i thought President OBAMA meant what he said during his campaing and swearing in speech as President! you have let us tamils down President OBAMA and with that your pledge to live up to Human Rights and Ideals of Freedom,Democracy, your Forfathers Vison etc have became only a script as Drama on stage! We phoned you, faxed, commented online, sent petitions and protested/demonstrated about the Genocide on Tamils in Sri Lanka! What have you and Administration done so far to end the suffering and bring justice to us Tamils ! Our Tamils wishes,Aspiration, will, right to life have been complete forgotten and the UN pushed our brethen to concentration camps where rapes, torture, intimidation, kidnapping, killings, money/jewellery extortion , hunger, lack of care in all sorts have been thrusted on us Tamils by Singhalese Army and supported by this unjust World.

yes we Eelam Tamils do accept the grievenances of our Eelam Tamil (muslims) brethen to what happened to them in the past and the LTTE said sorry start of the peace process and described that act as worst greatest mistake in eelam history. But imead then they invited all Muslims back officaly into their areas. The North and East of Ceylon is Tamil Eelam and is secular! But this is a Time where all Tamils communites come together to share the grief, pain and hold together as one Tamil Community is majority wish!

The struggle for Freedom continues regardless of the current Situation and Prabhakaran is alive with may thousand of LTTE cadres!

Long live the Tamil community and Tamil Eelam!

PS: We Tamils still after getting Tamil Eelam will & must want to live in permanent peace, dignity, prospority with the Singhalese on Ceylon Island who are lets face it! Our neighbouring country on this Island!

Madhu   May 23rd, 2009 8:03 am ET

whoever that said that tamils living in wellawatte and kottakena in colombo are happy... that is NOT TRUE!!! They are SCARED of you sinhalese. They can't voice their rights because they will be get killed the next minute.

T.T   May 23rd, 2009 5:12 pm ET

I'd just like to mention somethings about SriLanka. If any1 knows about the war it should be us. we have been terrorised by this war for 30 years. Not knowing if your family will come back alive each day... it has been a nightmare for Tamils, Sinhalese, Muslims... war has never been the solution... what we need is a political solution. and why separate such a small state?? even if they did would all tamil people have to uproot themselves and move to the eelam I don't think so.. There are tamil people working here in the armed forces, doctors. professors, n every proffession. The racism these people are talking about existed 20 odd years back..
The LTTE have killed so many tamils and tamil leaders like Mr Lakshman Kadiragamar. I can't believe these people have forgotten that.
Im just happy the blood shed is over... but we really do need a political solution for sure.

For who ever said Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse is an executor and about the UN peace keeping missions if there was genocide the UN woudn't hesitate to do that. The president has re-affirmed the fact over and over again that there are no so called "minorities" in this country only sri lankans who love their countries and the others who don't no matter what their race. And atleast he didn't play cards with our lives like the former rulers did.. Im thankful to that.
p.s Tamils are SriLankans! And so are all other races living in SL.

Shan,do you even live in Sri Lanka? Well, I do. THE WAR IS OVER. PRABHAKARAN IS DEAD and thank God for that because,if not,all the people around the world who don't know ANYTHING about the situation in Sri Lanka will go around claiming he is Our "Leader". Eelam is not going to be a reality. We voted for people like Lakshman Kadiragamar,a man who truly understood our needs but the LTTE killed him. NOBODY elected Prabhakaran as our leader. The democratically elected leader of my country is Mahinda Rajapakse and his government is the democratically elected one of this nation.

And Raji, I'm not a sinhalese, and I,too, say the War is over.

This is our problem. Sri Lanka happens to be a sovereign Nation and we are NOBODY's subordinate. Specially not nations that tolerate misguided terrorist supporters screaming for a dream that will never be a reality.

I live in Colombo. I was educated in one of the leading schools of the country and I count many muslims and sinhalese people as my friends, to the extent that even my girlfriend is a sinhalese woman. I admit freely that there are those who have been affected but it is in the past. As of the present I just feel sorry for those of you who scream fallacy in the name of racial discrimination.

A British woman once called me a "Black Asian". Does this not amount to racism?

And as for those of you who called a terrorist as a "Rebel", I will just say, stop adding fuel to the fire. Don't point your finger at us with wrong accusations.

If you are so bothered of humanitarian issues, look at Iraq, Afganistan, Pakistan. Point your finger at the US for the atrocities they commit.

But no one will point a finger at the US, a developed nation, who invaded a country and continues to commit crimes on false accusations, but look at the fuss made at us,trying to solve our nation's problems. Do we need to invade another country to gain the Worldwide community's approval?

We don't need your approval. Perhaps those who want Eelam can get it from England? or the US?

Because here, we just want to live as Sri Lankans.

Please, mind your own business, and let us attend to ours.

The war in Sri Lanka is not over. How could be the war ends without any solution to the minority tamils ethnic problem although Ban ki Moon was warlmly welcomed with red carpet on his arrival. SL govt never give any rights to the Tamils, because they have no any resistence from the tamils side.

Hello, thanks again for your continous seeking our comments.
As you know this ethnic conflict commenced deeply post independence of Ceylon 1948,from where racist sinhala buddhist
politicians deprived total voting and citizenship rights fo the plantation tamil descent as they born tamils, then sooner continued their atrocities eradicating all rights specially a clause annexed to the constitution 25c act preventing any discrimination against rich cultures nationals the tamils.I clearly forward some notes for your knowledge that more than 100000 tamils killed in the security zone
by furious government troops and still more tamils packed to the
buses as mentioning inquiry and being killed charging terrorists
so here no body like UNO,ICRC or non government humantarian groups are not allowed because there is a great atrocities done by rulers and government troops to the innocent civilians.

I therefore strongly beleive neighbouring indian troops too involved in this serious issue more than 6000 and killed indian troops are handed over to indian families stating suicided military person.
India involved in this crisis indirectly for it's own benefit of geographical, economical, regional big power manner allowing Sri lanka rulers to kill their own population where directly mentioning for political dialogue and indirectly persuading military solution to the ethnic conflict.Really shame of this ghandian country move avoiding entire foreign policy of Pandit J.Nehru and Mother Indra Gandhi.

For all Sri lanka racist rulers have no any option to continue their reign without continuing racism in their agenda and holding propaganda
globally finding political solution as a drama ,but from my experience
I can tell no body will find solution to the conflict and the war will contnue for our birth right atleast one tamil person live in Sri lanka to regain their lost
tamileelam state, god bless ever for human nature ............a plantation tamil voice.......

Tamils have been trying to get their message out for such a long time. I think it’s time for this government to take immediate action Srilankan Government should start the process so innocent lives will be saved Until the Sri Lankan government respect the Tamil people’s self-determination and respect, the war won’t come to end. The government will start to well settled Tamil communities in all the ways such as work, education and some well plan
War may be over by srilanka media. But genocide still going on the innocent Tamils die every Since there is no justification many pirapakaran born... in the war zone area, and there have war sri Lankan government erasing the evidence of killing civilians and hide the concentration camps day by day so until the international media arrived and watch the humanity situation The UN and the international community should get involved to overlook the safety and the rights for the Tamil people Life and Political Solution War in Sri Lanka is not over. How could be the war ends without any solution to the minority Tamils ethnic problem Tamil Freedom Fighters and Senior members and leaders have either given up their lives or have been killed. "The Sri Lankan Government may have declared a military victory. But it does not victory when they give a political solution that’s the real victory for the government and the freedom fighters
