Must reach comprehensive agreement to end this conflict, tension that must give PALESTENIANS THEIR LEGAL RIGHTS,GIVE ISRAEL THE SECURITY,ACCEPTANCE,CO-OPERATION.

muthyavan.   October 14th, 2010 1:42 am ET

Jerusalem is not a city just confined to Juwes and Palestenians it is also an important city for Cristians and for the world civilization heritage there should be an international agreement on how this city representing the old civilization should be developed.

terry dargan   October 14th, 2010 9:08 pm ET

can you report this to the world

John Plummer   November 2nd, 2010 7:18 pm ET

I don't think either side wants to end this conflict. If they really wanted to they would have already done so. Although, saying that I think that Israel needs to stop building more settlements in order to show the Palestinians that they are serious about the peace process

EUGENE C. ELLISON JR.   November 4th, 2010 1:35 am ET

I THINK THE US SHOULD LIMIT WHAT THEY DO OVER SEA AND WHO THEY HELP. IF THEY HELP ONLY ON A MONTHLY BASIS. AND IF THEY GET ANY HELP THEY NEED TO FOLLOW A PLAN. THEY SHOULD NOT RECEIVE ANY TYPE OF FUNDS IN A LUMP SUM ONLY IN A MONTHLY PAYMENT SO IF THEY DO NOT FOLLOW THE PLAN OR DO SOMETHING WE DO NOT LIKE WE PUT A STOP TO IT.! AND EVERYONE IS THE SAME FOR OUR HELP. BUT ONLY HELP AFTER OUR OWN IS HELP FIRST!! I DO NOT COMPLAIN USUALLY, BUT I SEE OUR OWN NEEDING HELP.

Noticed that the Mayor downplayed International Law. Therein lies the problem, historical and current. How would you feel about your neighbors if they had a similar attitude about local laws?

Padma Sethi   December 4th, 2010 9:35 am ET

Hi Hala,

Going through your intereview with Mayor Nir Bakat for second time, my analysis of Mayor attitude towards Jews/Arab settlement issues are best 'aired' again by inviting a second or third rank Palastinian future leader or senior spokesperson to argue with Mayor to stir up some thoughts or possible solution where it could sow 'seeds for green shoots of idea' starts from Arab/Jews Sreets; to resolve settlement housing problems. High level talks without Arab Streets change of attitudes are a waste of time. Try not to invite the hardliners but only those that see a 'compromise future' possible for Jew/Arab to live together either in Zone under Bipartisan rules (unlikely States). Bipartisan rule in basic forms are inherrent in UK & US where you see Democrat/Republican or UK Coalition officers/or Palatastinian with Israel; working side by side. The future peace of West Bank, Gaza or Jerusalem can only exists if Jew/Arab can call each other good neighbours, until this attitude is part of life NO PEACE will ever exist in Israel/Palastinian land.

I have heard the interview ,I can say that, the mayor of Jerusalem
speaks english fluently, and he explained his opinion pretty good,
but this is an Israeli official vision to the case,he ignored the the
internation importance of the city, therefor Mr Ban ki mon still has
to issue his statement about this very sensitive problem,to put
an end of 60 years of conflict...

Ayal   December 12th, 2010 2:34 pm ET

It's a good and almost fair inteview, but to be really fair the interview would have to take about 3 hours. Nir Barkat is obviously doing his own spin, but under the circumstances he has to or nothing would be heard. The truth is the issue is one of the most complex on the globe so if anyone gives simple answers or worse suggests simple solution – get suspicious. Is this going to air on TV ? -I'd like to see it without interruptions and with a proper picture quality

ackentch   December 14th, 2010 1:49 am ET

Maybe now that we have less talking, about what "we" think should be done, we can put these people out of their misery, in a military fashion, and worry about the consiquenses later. (WWII) BLU82. We loved your service over the years. But hold no quarter till there's peace, or until they live like humans on earth.

God rest, Mr. Holbrook

JF   December 14th, 2010 10:04 pm ET

The real Israelites would know what happen the last time greed
over ruled thinkfulness. If Israel was real they would not behave as
they do. The world goes alone with Israel behavior because they are
trying to be on the side of, so call God's people. If they were God's
peoples they would behave unlike all others.

jerusalem mayor is a liar

Mona Shehata   February 5th, 2011 1:29 pm ET

Mr. Omar Soliman says that the resignation of Pres. Mubarak would detain the political and democratic reform as his presence in power is critical to change the constitution however this is not true at all as these changes can be implemented even with Pres Mubarek is not in office as follows:
1) according to article 136 of constitution the pres. disolves the peoples assembly and shoura councel call for public elections then he resigns
2) according to article 84 the head of the supreme constitutional court assumes power
3) according to article 152 the head of the court calls for public referandum on the removal of article 76 from the constitution as it is in conflict with article 8
or
after electing the parliament it may call for change of articles 76, 77,88,or any other articles it wishes to change by one third of its members and may be approved by two third of its member and this does not require the presedent in office and that is done under article 189 of the constitution
then it may call for presidential elections
all this sacn be done within 3 months maximum without Mr. Mubarak so the question is why is he clinging to power after all this and if he and his aids are honest in performing reforms why are they lying about it
it is obvious they are buying time to just kill the uprising and if they get it then God Help us all Egypt will become one big concentration camp

Andrew Pratt   February 5th, 2011 4:27 pm ET

David Karuri has urged the Jerusalem mayor to hold talk with Palestenians because Jerusalem is also home to the Palestenians. David Karuri has offerd to provide financial support to both Jews and Palestenians in Jerusalem

Dan.mustraus   February 5th, 2011 4:33 pm ET

David Karuri has today spoken to the United Nations about Israel. "We must reach comprehensive agreement to end this conflict, tension that must give PALESTENIANS THEIR LEGAL RIGHTS,GIVE ISRAEL THE SECURITY,ACCEPTANCE,CO-OPERATION.

Is there a way to collect some thoughts from managers of other major crises that the Japanese managers could use as a touchpoint or sounding board? Could we get together an electronic panel of managers from Chernobyl, Indonesia, Haiti, Katrina, Habitat for Humanity, Drs w/o Borders, etc and have them give a caution of the day or a kudo of the day or a "best practice example" of the day or all 3? There is so much experience out there that is lost in the crowd of individual forums. Would CNN help by bringing this together?

Remember last year when Hala reported from the Gulf of Mexico on the malicous Israeli soldiers and how the closure on Gaza is illegal?

It turns out that the United Nations determined that the closure on Gaza is fully legal!

Obviously, Sarah Palin is not the only one who can see Russia from home, Hala also can see Gaza Strip from the Gulf of Mexico ...

and remember kids, Lies will lead you nowhere.
Like the lie that there is a humanitarian crisis in Gaza (humanitarian crisis with malls, amusement park, luxury restaurants and an Olympic pool ...)

Marcia   July 7th, 2011 8:53 pm ET

This woman basically hates Israel!

Why Jews should not live in East Jerusalem and Arabs can rent\ buy apartments wherever they want in West Jerusalem?

Why do Jerusalem Municipality destroys illegal construction in the Jewish side and Arabs are beenig helped to make legal the illegal construction of them?

Not to mention that the Arabs archaeological terrorisem:
archeological findings of Christian and Jewish religion and eliminated by the Muslims .

and Hala, Jerusalem is occupied from Jordan!!!! It was Jordanian before 1967. It's A jORDANIAN LAND!

why do you let people who graduated from community college broadcast on CNN??

yael   July 10th, 2011 9:43 am ET

Legally Hala –
Jerusalem and Judea and Samaria were conquered from Jordan. They were taken from her after that Syria, Egypt and Jordan declared war on Israel on 1967.
you always forget to note that trying to destroy a country is also illegally ...
Jordan in the first place was not the rightful owner of the area – there were no owners at the end of the British Mandate.
there's no owner. so who is it occupied from???
Legal definition of such cases are not "occupation" but "disputed territory".
Today journalists do not understand why they say what they say...

sheryl Zen Ruffinen   September 20th, 2011 7:17 pm ET

i cannot find the page but why is no one asking why greece was allowed to enter the eurozone in the first place. why is everyone such an idiot? why do we not rely on good sound economics. why is the UWS allowed to do what it does. and CNN makes billions reporting on what anyone with a good business degree and sound ethics would have never allowed in the first place

Angie Minetto   October 28th, 2011 1:33 pm ET

I watched your program yesterday and I heard you are finally coming to Portugal. I live here for 30 years and it's a beautifully fantastic country and the food is out of this world.
I hope you have a great trip and enjoy the good weather.
Please keep up your great work on the IDesk. Best wishes, Angie
