Hello everyone,

A quick note to give you a glimpse into the Idesk rundown.

We'll be leading with reaction to Michael Jackson's sudden death. Fans are mourning, tributes are being planned and people are starting to ask questions about how and why the pop star went into cardiac arrest at such a young age.

Amid reports the star may have has issues with prescription drugs, police say they are now looking for Jackson's personal physician. They towed the doctor's car from the Jackson residence yesterday.

We'll take you live to Los Angeles and London for more on the star's shocking passing.

Also, we'll bring you the latest from Iran. Images are still trickling out from the streets of Tehran, but they are few and far between. Our Iran desk has the latest.

We'll also have Michael Ware in Baghdad and Dan Lothian at the Whie House.

See you on TV!

It’s really hard to believe that Michael Jackson is not with us anymore. He was a great singer. He has contributed a lot to make popular the pop music. The way he used to dance with his music was fantastic. He was not only one of the best singers of the world but also an artist who had a definite style which made him very easy to recognize. The unbelievable death of Michael Jackson is an unbearable loss to the music world.

Global Thinker   June 26th, 2009 6:59 pm ET

I think it's always sad, when someone with such potential dies. Why do such things happen?

bregt ausloos   June 26th, 2009 7:23 pm ET

the world just lossed the best artist. a man who was loved over the borders. in the whole world. this is a black day in history.

Dave S.   June 26th, 2009 7:24 pm ET

I wonder if anyone at CNN or any other network is reviewing the footage of the people yelling at him when he was involved in his bad times and comparing that with the people that are now treating him as if he is a saint.

Michael was a great person and he'll stay The king of pop. His deth is the hardest thig we'll have to put up with

Michael Jackson had a direct, high-speed connection to the power of creativity in the Universe. A perfectionist, he CREATED absolutely NEW dances...he didnt just build on the work of others. Michael Jackson has provided the soundtrack to my generation's lives. I believe that MJ was the target of many greedy people who took advantage of his naievety and kindness. No matter what your opinion of Michael Jackson's private life may be, you cannot deny the beauty and power or passion of his talent. I am deeply sadenned by his death and I wish the children and other members of his family and circle of friends peace and strength in these very difficult, sad times. Michael Jackson will always be the king of Pop. I pray that he is finally getting the childhood and peace that he craved in life. Thank you so much Michael!

Ipek Yeginsu   June 26th, 2009 7:26 pm ET

MICHAEL JACKSON... WAS IT NECESSARY FOR HIM TO DIE TO GET THE PRAISE AND RESPECT HE DESERVED FROM THE PRESS?? THOSE TV CHANNELS AND MEDIA PEOPLE WHO MADE HIS LIFE A NIGHTMARE FOR AGES NOW PRAISE HIS CAREER AS IF IT WAS NOT THEM WHO BROUGHT HIM TO COLLAPSE...
IF IT WERE NOT FOR MICHAE'LS MUSIC, I COULD NOT HAVE SURVIVED MY TEEN AGE, I WOULD NOT... I WILL BE THANK FUL TO HIM AND I WILL LOVE HIM TILL MY LAST BREATH...
MAY HE REST IN PEACE, AND THERE IS NO WAY TO DESCRIBE MY PAIN...

Dannyboy Egbule   June 26th, 2009 7:27 pm ET

MJ's death has left me speechless, he was the third thing i learnt after daddy and mummy, and i feel like i have lost a family member..his legacy CANNOT be dampened by the senseless accusations and haters may hate, but the moonwalker's thriller will never die! MJ you rock!

He was not born with a Golden Spoon in his mouth...He became a GOLDEN ICON

MICHAEL JACKSON was a GENIUS...Rare of his kind. I remember dancing to his videos when I was a kid. I watched his videos just like reading a book. My parents friends use to give me money when they saw me dance to Micheal Jackson

His private life should not be capitalised. He made mistakes like every other person on earth.

Let he who has not committed sin in this world of any kind, be it physical or psycgological throw the first stone

HE IS A LEGEND. ALL TIME LEGEND

Michael's passage teaches us to expect the sudden unexpected and live our lives knowing that when we pass on others who looked up to us need strength and memories to be strong when it seems stormy. This is a loss that cannot be measured.

Dessislava Dimitrova - Bulgaria   June 26th, 2009 7:32 pm ET

Today is the worst day in world HIStory. Millions of people are suffering. A legend is gone. Parts of million hearts gone with him too. He was the most loved person the world has ever seen and doubt will see again. There are no words to describe the pain we, Michael`s fans are through. What a lost!!! Why??? Don`t want to believe it, just can`t.. Oh, my God he`s gone too soon and forever. Rest in piece, MICHAEL. We will love you FOREVER.

Yes! there is no controversy that Jackson was the greatest and the best POP musician ever know in this world.

But i will be quick to tell you that he his the G.R.E.A.T.E.S.T Traitor to the black race for him to have change his skin color and other body formation to that of a white man.

HIS LYRICAL JOURNEY!
There came a star, he was “Off the Wall”,
He “Worked day and Night”, to “Burn the Disco out”,
Nobody knew he “Wanted to be Starting Something”,
He was a “Thriller”, “He’s got the Look”, “Pretty Young Thing”,
He started a dance phenomenon, nobody could “Beat It”,
On his feet, the “Speed Demon”, broke the law of gravity,
This guy was “Bad” his lyrics was “Dangerous”,
Everybody was “Speechless”, he was “Invincible”, “Unbreakable”,
The moonwalker, “Didn’t stop till we got Enough”,
Boy! “You rock my World”, “Say, Say, Say” no more,
He’s “Jam”, “Healed the World”, “Black or White”,
“Everybody was tripping on him”,
“The way he made us Feel”, “Who is It”, that wasn’t thrilled,
The father of three had no “Privacy”, “He was driven Wild”,
By “Billie Jean”, “Liberian Girl” and “Dirty Diana”,
But “Heaven couldn’t Wait”, the “2000 Watts” maestro was “Gone too Soon”,
His messages told us;
“We are the World”, it’s “Human Nature” to “Keep the Faith”,
Adieu M.J.J., fun filler, dance thriller and music pillar.

I watch CNN a great deal and one policy I strongly object to is the extremely poor and often repeated habit of, when an "news event" occurs, acting as if the rest of the world has completely ceased to exist and nothing else is happening. Certainly the death of Michael Jackson is an event, but one of only fleeting and ephemeral importance. Yet CNN played it for hours, repeating the story with no new information and catering to uninformed speculation while shelving all the far more newsworthy and actually important stories that were still occurring around the world. Please restore a more reasonable and intelligent balance to your coverage. Thanks.

Greg   June 26th, 2009 7:54 pm ET

Your Jerusalem correspondent just commented on the 100 year old conflict between palestinians and Israelis?!?! and the web commentator spoke of how Iran will not be forgotten amidst the hype about Michael Jackson, but it still took 41 minutes to get away from all of the speculation and repitition of the fact that a singer of dubious repute may or may not have died from a heart attack.

Please please tell me why the idesk is so called. I'm fascinated.

Clearly the news is going in the right direction, this is valuable information that you have provided your viewers this evening.

Driving to work, i listenend to his "Earth Song"...i became suprisingly sad over a man i always considered hilarious. I imagine he always wished to live and be "normal". Now he is gone "abnormally". I now truly believe that not all wishes can be fulfilled but we still have to work to their fulfillment even if hopelessly. M.J..I pray "you are not alone" wherever you are! Here on earth you will be remembered by all "Black or White"
Thanks for the lessons you've left for us here on earth. R.I.P M.J

Dr Hammad   June 26th, 2009 8:07 pm ET

Hala, your reporting of Micheal Jacksons sudden and sad death seems to be highly inappropriate for two reasons. Firstly you seemed to be amused wearing a broad grin on your face and secondly you are trying your level best to undermine the magnitude of the event as your priority is reporting of post election events in Iran.Micheal Jackson was the greatest singer of all times and he deserves a much better tribute from your esteemed agency. The great man has passed away so now we need to put an end to child abuse allegations or financial troubles.

Parycao   June 26th, 2009 8:10 pm ET

Hala,

Why don't you or someone initiate prescripting an interview with Ahmadinijad and Mousavi together? I think something like that could be well organized and conversation directed toward constructiveness.

By the way I heard you compareTwitter to a battlefield. It put me a little on edge. I think it's better to compare Twitter to an interaction tool rather than a battlefield.

Michael Jackson sang that 'it don't matter if you're black or white', rev. Al Sharpton waxed lyrical about MJ's celebration 'of colour, before Tiger Woods'. How does it all square with MJ desperately trying to be white, to deny his African-American roots?

Schwarz   June 26th, 2009 8:24 pm ET

I'm 16 yrs old, from Romania, and I must say that when I heard that Michael Jackson had died, I was very surprized, because I always knew him as a strong person, and I never thought that he would die at the age of only 50. I actuelly love his music and its a pitty that some people might not appreciate his music like it should be! He had done many things for his familly and not only, he also helped other children, in fact he helped everyone he could, he tried to make everyone happy, but he couldn't be as happy as those he helped...
May he rest in peace!

Mauricio Rojas, Sweden   June 26th, 2009 8:33 pm ET

But He's definitely in a much better place now.
God Bless You MJ

You were born of parents but we all believed you came from an unknown peaceful place as distinct from the earth to teach the earth love and unity with your music. Unfortunately, I am normally working when your program is aired. When possible, I have gotten your reports for many years and they always have the international flavor I must have in order to appreciate the news. Both you and your reports are top quality. It would be nice if CNNi would provide a CD of anchors like you with a collection of stories covering important global events, say, for the last decade. that may be a valuable file on the gravitas and scope of reporting power. I am sure such CDs would be of considerable value historically and as an anchor's impromptu resume.
I'll comment on your news next time. As for Michael Jackson there is little dispute about his significance in the evolution of rock and roll history.

Thanks for your highly professional reporting.

Let's not get carried away here.

Jackson was a spectacular entertainer, who made some fantastic music, and a larger than life figure, but this is most certainly not a "black day in history".

He was, after all, only a human being, and like us all, deeply, deeply flawed.

I still remember the hysteria at the death of Diana, and this shows every sign of being even worse. The world has far bigger problems than the loss of one entertainer.

Fatima Sanusi   June 27th, 2009 11:47 am ET

MJ may have his short comings [and who doesnt] we should thank him for entertainment and the help he always give to children and the rest of the world, more especially Africa. An icon is gone and we will miss him. No one can ever be like him.

OLUWASEUN A. ADIGUN   June 27th, 2009 11:56 am ET

PEOPLE MAY SAY MANY DIFFERENT THINGS ABOUT MICHAEL JACKSON'S PERSONAL LIFE BUT MY OWN PERSONAL VIEW IS TOTALLY DIFFERENT, COS I BELIEVE THESE PEOPLE EITHER FROM AFRICA,ASIA,EUROPE EVEN AMERICAS AREN'T SAINTS IN WHATEVER FORMS AND THAT ALONE MAKES THEM ALL INPERFECT AS HUMAN.

I THINK ITS STUPID AND CRAZY CRITISIZING HIS PAST. ONLY THOSE WITH MYIOPIC THINKING FACULTY WOULD SAY THEY DON'T MAKE MISTAKES OR THEY'RE SUPER HUMAN.BUT ALL I KNOW IS THAT " THE GREAT MJ AFFECTED THE WORLD GENEROUSLY IN DIVERSE MEANS AND I LOVED HIM FOR THAT.

"I COUNT ANYONE WHO CRITISIZE HIM (MJ) AS A FOOL, COS THEY CAN'T MOVE AN ORDINARY STONE TALKLESS OF MOVING MOUNTAINS BUT MY GREAT MICHAEL DID"

ITS NOT OVER YET!!!

Heal the world .. We were blessed with a gifted sole , that brought happyness ,joy ,and hope . His music reached our soles and uplifted us to euphoria , in times of need. He was that spark that ignited the youthfulness within in us all , the dream life style which we all would aspire to , encouragement and belief, that nothing is impossible
He was an extraodinary kind sole who broke down many barriers and who was many times misunderstood. He was pure in heart and was proactive in trying to HEAL THE WORLD , with his many attributes to the world . the human race should lean not to be judgemental as their is only one judge our maker who now has retrieved his princely angle, the world has lost another GREAT SOLE soar high MICHEAL ,

rostam   June 27th, 2009 2:27 pm ET

I saw him first on television in a town on the border in the war between Iran and Iraq in 1983. His videos were not allowed in big cities in Iran but in the front line they had no control.
What was mazing for me was that young soldiers imitated him in those long nights we had between attacks and counter attacks and they were good. There were many wana be him and they were good.

Kiala from Angola   June 27th, 2009 5:30 pm ET

We all here in Angola were shocked after knowing that MJ has passed away, people and all media were as was expected only talking about the music icon what the entire world has lost.
In this moment very difficult we need to pay tribute to the guy who along his musics spread love, joy and happiness all over the world.

Michael Jackson, where ever you are now, Angola is also missing you so much!!!
Let God have mercy and save his soul!!!

Jorden de Bouve   June 27th, 2009 5:30 pm ET

The world will be missing an unique, talented singer. I truly believe he was a friendly person with a good hart. Nonetheless his personal circumstances and the world he was kind of forced to live in were weird. He could have done something about it himself, that's true but at the same time I guess it was impossible. After all he stepped into that weird world at the age of six if not sooner than that. It is a real shame we all let it happen. Now he and we have to pay the price. MJ is no longer among the living.

KSF   June 27th, 2009 5:59 pm ET

This is a really interesting experience. Seeing how the Internet carries all these sentiments forward so quickly, seeing how it becomes self-perpetuating and leads to some people (who might otherwise be "normal", whatever that means) publicly calling yesterday "The Worst Day in World History".

It's difficult to respond to such a statement, except by saying that by making it, the commenter reveals more about themselves than about the rest of the world. Friday the 26th of June, 2009 was in no way, shape or form the worst day in world history.

Once this communal reaction dies down, it is to be hoped that some people honestly question why they would make such statements, commenting on the passing of an individual personally unknown to them.

The whole world can mourn, cry and talk till we all turn blue but MJ is gone! Where was everyone when he was craving for love and attention. Look at his sold out concerts yet , despite thousands of fans, MJ was fully engrosed in his own MJ world, he and his music were one! MJ r.i.p.

Prem Nizar Hameed   June 28th, 2009 7:21 am ET

It is a great loss to the entire music world. Maybe he is the only singer almost all the people in the world can easily remember, because he was in such a fame and glory. Don’t walk like Michael Jackson was the comment we used to make on our school singers and dancers. Thriller still thrills millions in the world. His personal life never shadows his musical life. He left such a legacy that no one can replace him. From layman to elite enjoy his music. Legends are born only, they don’t die. He will live on till music ends.

Khaled AL Jaberi   June 28th, 2009 8:56 am ET

We lost MJ:

It is surprising to me to see and hear the reaction of the world on the death of MJ, there is no doubt in my mind any more how much he was loved . Nevertheless, at the end we have to accept the truth that there is the end of the life for everybody and it doesn’t matter how popular, power, poor, rich etc you are.

The only thing that remains is your work and goods deeds.

Kathiron   June 28th, 2009 10:38 pm ET

TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL JACKSON

It is really a great loss for music world. We, Srilankan Tamils share our deep sadness with his family. He has also failed to safeguard more than 54,000 innocent civilians lives who were killed by Srilankan government recently. If he is still alive, he would do something for voiceless Tamils in Srilanka. Anyway this loss is not replaceable.

As a Kid i didn't like much music, but the musics i only loved and liked to hear it was his musics, i started to like music thru him and i would love to be his sun! xD
