While I most strongly agree with increasing economic sanctions, and support military action, I do not believe strictly military action can help in this circumstance. The reason the North exists is because the people support the belief that the rest of the world is hostile towards them; something the ruling party has had almost 60 years to ingrain in the minds of almost all of its subjects. I believe the only effective way to bring about the end of North Korea (which I am assuming is the goal of the majority of the rest of the world) is an internal revolution, which I am extremely shocked has not happened thus far. It baffles me how the North Korean people can go through so much hardship, especially throughout the past 3 years of widespread starvation, and not rise up against the ruling authorities. I do not believe the people of North Korea should starve and die (through sanctions or military action) because of the wrongdoings of their ruling party. I believe making the people aware of their situation is the most important thing we can do now.

Blow Mr. Ill (who is very ill!) and his regime off the damn map!

John   May 26th, 2009 5:26 pm ET

Do nothing! I don’t get why this is surprising. The North-Korean government never cared what the rest of the world says. Everything the country does is to force their own people to believe its a super power. The rest of the world should know better. North-
Korea will never be a real danger and it’s only purpose is to act like it will. They’ve got hardly enough food to feed their ‘great’ leader, which shows by the way. Starting a war would be suicide for N-Korea, so they never will.
The world should stop giving this country so much attention. If you tell an idiot long enough that he is very important, he is probably going to believe it at the end!

The leadership in North Korea knows that they can do whatever they want to do and when they want and the International Community will do nothing that will affect them. The UN Resolutions that has been placed on the North Koreans has not hurt them and they have a close friend on the UN Security Council, (China) and (Russia) that will back them up even if they are wrong in their actions. The UN is helpless...

"There is no immediate panic, it will take at least 5 years before they have the capability to become a real threat..." Let's not sit and watch how they develop that capability over the next 5 years, shall we? We're not talking about reasonable, clear-thinking nice guys here. These people are seriously deranged. It would be a grave mistake to ignore them.

Northkorea,is recklessly insulting the international community, unfortunately, russia and china are supporting him, therefore,a very strong military action should be taken against him, this will serve as deterent to others.

Failure to take action now will spelt-doom to world peace
in conclusion, America and its ailies have done enough for the world,i think it is time for russia and china to bell the cat
good day HALLA

If someone understand the North Korean action from North Korean perspective, I can understand why they do this way. We showed a bad example in Iraq – North Korea has a valid reason to worry a similar scenario. And Japan, next door neighbour is one of the worst Imperialist and selfish country in our history – Again North Korea has valid reason to strengthen. Finally all previous negotiations, we failed to convince that the West is a credible parter. I think, the world should negotiate while North Korea in its strong position.

International Community is always biased and supporting all terror activities! We've seen some high ranking officials in Top countries collected funds for terrorists in public. So, i think IC should do NOTHING at All....................!

Mayu   May 28th, 2009 10:17 am ET

In my view, we should make North Korea to be comfortable with Western world. The relationship between the China and the North Korea should be destroyed. China is keeping the North Korea issue to hide its own problem. North Korea should understand this point and come out from such plot.
